Sick Kids

I woke up at 4:44 AM this morning feeling like I should check on the kids. Lucy was fine. Tarver was burning up with a fever: 102.6 •F.

They've had colds for about a week. Yesterday I finally got the cold too. But this fever... Having a sick baby is hard on many levels. Today will be a cuddle on the couch, do-nothing day.

Oh-and Skye was my hero when he went for more baby Tylenol at 5:00 AM. :-)

I love midwives.

I had my first appointment - yes, at 19 weeks - yesterday and it went great! We got to know each other, talked a lot about births, and it was a truly satisfying and enjoyable experience. In fact, we enjoyed it all so much that we forgot to do something important - draw blood!

I got all the way home and my babysitter was walking out the door when I got a call with them apologizing and asking if I could come back. I explained I couldn't and asked if I could come back in on another day. Instead, they sent someone to me!

My blood was drawn - those lovely three vials - in my own home from the comfort of my couch.

Lucy thought it was cool. :-)

Politics - Magic Mormon Underwear

Yes, it's a touchy subject. Not a "secret" subject. Catholics don't like it when their crosses or rosaries are mocked. I bet Orthodox Jews don't like it when we mock their yamakas and other sacred clothing. That's about it.

I'm an adult Mormon, a married woman, and I have been to the Temple to make sacred promises to God to obey His commandments. I wear the "garments." And here is the best article I've read on the subject so far, in terms of a concise and clear explanation to non-Mormons.

Also, did anyone catch Donny Osmond on late night TV talking about garments? Liked his response to the questions too.

Book Review - Biography

My Lucky Life in and Out of Show BusinessMy Lucky Life in and Out of Show Business by Dick Van Dyke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love Dick Van Dyke. I was introduced to him through - what else? - Mary Poppins. Burt was always my favorite character. I've also seen reruns of the Dick Van Dyke television show and loved them - they're pretty timeless - and I've seen several other films with him. He is just such a fantastic entertainer - he always makes me smile. So, I picked up the book already his fan.

I ended the book liking him and understanding him even more. Though I can't/don't agree with all his personal views, I still find him a refreshingly moral Hollywood personality and I think this gave a pretty honest account of his life thus far. I liked it and just finished recommending it to a friend. :-)

For people unfamiliar with a large body of his word, I would say you may find yourself a little lost. I actually got a little lost once he entered the late-seventies/early-eighties period. But I still enjoyed my overall reading experience.
